After several email reminders from “The Bump” and “What To Expect” about starting to register for my baby shower, I figured I might as well get it out of the way. With our upcoming move, birthing and parenting classes scheduled, and just growing in my pregnancy, it was best to get this thing going sooner than later.
So what I thought would be a pretty easy process turned out to be more than I expected. I thought I was gonna go online, create my registry and get to adding away. Two minutes in and I am completely overwhelmed. The easiest part was creating my online profile. I immediately text my sister and ask her is she free the weekend. She has 3 children so having a pro work with me should surely help make this task an easier one.
Praise God … she is free.
I decide to start at Babies R’ Us. It seems pretty standard to register at two places. But Babies R’ Us seems to be a favorite among the masses. I settle on what location I wanna go to and the plans are in motion. I pick my sister up in the a.m., stop at Dunkin Donuts for a sandwich, a small coffee and a donut — its for the baby. And, we are on our merry way.
When we get there we stop at the registry desk, meet Barbara, fill out paperwork and get armed with a scanning gun. It’s time to conquer the baby world! We decided to start in equipment and feeding. You know, bottles, pacifiers, bibs and so on. From glass to plastic, from different shapes of nipples, to the different Brands and styles to all kinds of storage — LAWD!!
Then we move to strollers and car seats. But I decide to bring my husband back in for the big stuff. Im sure he’ll want to have his say on those particular items. So we move on to bathtubs — mind you I register for three. Don’t judge me. They were different sizes and had different functions. Functions I can’t quite explain to y’all but in my mind I know they are different. I smell product review.
So then, we go through play pens, diapers, skincare products, blankets — the whole nine … hundred. Every damn thing imaginable was covered. This place is huge and the amount of stuff to choose from is never ending. By this time we are about an hour and a half in. But we still had more to go. Uhhh Clothes!! I’m about to be in trouble.
When we get to the clothes I am losing my mind. I mean theeeee cutest stuff. Im scanning everything. Some stuff twice but in different sizes. We probably spent another hour and a half in that section. Being in this moment just made it all seem so real because up until then it still had not seem to fully hit me … that I’m having a baby. I guess Im a lot more secure in this process than I thought I’d ever be.
With another store on the radar somewhere down the line and products to choose with my hubby, we are finally done. We take our scanner back to Barb, she syncs the list to my online account, closes us out and I get a cute little gift bag with coupons and sample products. Yay!
I cannot stress enough, especially if this is your first child, to have someone who already has kids to help you during this process. Even if you already have children, it is still a fun and exciting experience to share with someone you love.
So glad my sister was with me. (singing) We are fam-ma-lee, I got my awesome sista with me.
