When I was a child, my aunt said I couldn’t say “Almost Finished” so I would say “Mo So Finished”. LOL. Which is really befitting since a lot of people call me Mo and even more so now because Mo, is almost finished with this pregnancy. I am officially 39 weeks and 1 week away from giving birth to my first child. Wow.
Since turning 35 weeks I have been seeing the OB weekly. Which is the norm. When I turned 37 weeks I started seeing a Maternal and Fetal Medicine Specialist for ultrasounds and non-stress tests which I’ll do up until I deliver. The ultrasounds are to make sure baby’s organs are working properly. They also measured the baby to give us an idea of what he weighed. SEVEN POUNDS y’all!
They say from this point on baby’s grow about a half ounce a week so looks like I’ll be having a little rump shaker. Eight pounds are what they are projecting at delivery. We also found out he has a lot of hair, which he must get from his daddy because I didn’t have any hair as a baby. Myth or not, this could also explain the heart burn I’ve been experiencing lately. And even though we did a regular 2D ultrasound — I thought about doing the 3D, which gives a more detailed view of the baby — we could still see his little rolls of skin.
The Fetal Non-Stress test involved attaching one belt to my abdomen to measure baby’s heart rate and another belt to measure contractions. Movement, heart rate and “reactivity” of heart rate to movement is measured for 20-30 minutes. Baby boy passed with flying colors. The technician said if there was a course being taught on this test and what a good report looked like, our baby’s report would be a perfect example. However, if the baby does not move, it does not necessarily indicate there is a problem — the baby could just be asleep.
At my last doctors appointment they checked my cervix which was still closed. So they are planning to induce. I have one more OB and Fetal Med appointment on my birthday (Wednesday, Jan 3rd), the following day (Thursday, Jan 4th) I go into have a gel inserted to help soften my cervix and then I’ll wait for the hospital to call me in to get the ball rolling. This is expected to happen probably the evening of Jan 4th but we’ll see. His official due date is January 5th.
Friends have been suggesting all kinds of things like walking around the mall, having sex, and other things to help get this moving along but y’all I’m so dang tired at this point. I can certainly feel the weight of this little pumpkin because my hips and back are paying for it. Not to mention I’m waking up every morning with his feet up in my ribs. I guess he’s trying to get as comfortable as he can in such a small space and, well, momma is just gonna have to bear with it.
Overall, I cannot complain at all. This pregnancy has been amazing. And up until now, am I starting to really feel it. Getting out of bed with ease, trying to put on socks and shoes and the constant bathroom visits are starting to wear me out. While I’m so blessed he stayed until term, I am ready to deliver this little bundle of L.O.V.E.
So I need y’all to keep me and baby in prayer. Momma is claiming an easy, safe, quick delivery with baby making his way into the world healthy and happy. Claiming it in the name of Jesus. Amen.
